Burcu is a Istanbul-based investigative journalist with over 15 years of experience focusing on migration, human rights, and religion. She has worked with Reuters, Deutsche Welle, and the Turkish daily Milliyet, producing field-based reporting centered on people’s lived experiences. Her cross-border investigations with teams such as Bellingcat and Lighthouse Reports have exposed pushbacks at EU borders and labor exploitation in global supply chains.
She holds a master’s degree in International Relations and Communication from Boston University and has taught journalism at Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul. Her books include Biz Her Şeyiz: Diyanet’in İşleri (2021), an in-depth study of Turkey’s Directorate of Religious Affairs during the AKP era. She has been a visiting researcher at the Middle East Institute in Washington and a Logan Nonfiction Fellow, and she has received the European Union Investigative Journalism Award twice.
