Marta Kos (born 28 June 1965 in Šempeter pri Gorici, Slovenia) is the European Commissioner for Enlargement in the von der Leyen II Commission since 2024. A former journalist and diplomat, she studied journalism and political science at the University of Ljubljana. Kos served as Slovenia’s Ambassador to Germany (2013–2017) and Switzerland (2017–2020), and has also held senior positions in communications and consultancy. Active in Slovenian politics, she was a candidate for the presidency in 2022 and vice-president of the Freedom Movement party. In her current role, she oversees the EU’s enlargement process, including negotiations with Ukraine, Moldova, and the Western Balkans.
