Success Story: Camellia Abu El-Saad

I will never let my disability get under my skin or stop me from achieving my dreams. I hope that every girl and woman get the chance to take part in such trainings."

"I love how we sell our products and encourage each other to be economically empowered. I wish we come together and have our own workshop at our village where we can work and succeed together.

Project: Funded by the European Union Trust Fund North of Africa, the project “Addressing the economic drivers of irregular migration (AEDIM)” is implemented by the National Council for Women (NCW). It aims to provide an alternative to irregular migration through enterprise development and work opportunities for women and youth in the regions and villages of Egypt being exporting or sending governorates. Specifically, the regions addressed are Beheira and Gharbiya in Delta, and Luxor and Minya in Upper Egypt.

"I will never let my disability get under my skin or stop me from achieving my dreams. I hope that every girl and woman get the chance to take part in such trainings", stressed Camellia Abu El-Saad, a middle-aged woman, who lives in Delga village in Minya Governorate, and participated in the "Hand Printing and Embroidery" training organised by the National Council for Women (NCW).

So determined and ambitious, Camelia was eager to learn more about this handicraft and help her fellows. She became one of the best trainees in embroidery and was selected to travel to Sharm El-Sheikh to showcase her work at the NCW's exhibition in the Green Zone at the COP27, a one-of-a-kind experience that offered her the opportunity to see visitors from all over the world appreciating her work and making special orders at the live show she performed. Moreover, she was part of a big group that participated with their products as gifts to the guests attending the Egyptian Women's Day and Ideal Mother's Celebration 2023.

"I love how we sell our products and encourage each other to be economically empowered. I wish we come together and have our own workshop at our village where we can work and succeed together", stated Camellia while participating in the exhibition held during the "Meet the Icon" event, in the framework of the "Europe Month" celebrations.
