Animal welfare in agriculture is an important issue that requires proper management and control at all stages, including on-farm, during transport and at slaughter. Overall, this Twinning project on animal welfare was an important milestone in improving the living conditions of farm animals in Lithuania.
This Twinning project contributed to further improving the animal welfare situation in Lithuania by providing a large number of highly specialised theoretical and practical training sessions for inspectors. The trainings covered the entire inspection process: the selection of holdings via risk analysis, inspection orders, on-the spot inspection, reporting and documentation.
Tangible results and sustainable impacts on the animal welfare situation in Lithuania:
- Improved regulatory compliance with EU and national legal requirements on animal welfare,
- Improved understanding, knowledge and skills of all training participants regarding the specific needs of farm animals,
- Increased productivity and product quality through proper animal care at all stages "from farm to fork",
- Increased consumer confidence through a clear commitment by the authorities to allow only responsible animal welfare practices.
