Tomorrow, Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal, Interinstitutional Relations and Foresight Maroš Šefčovič, Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders and Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi, will attend the meeting of the General Affairs Council in Brussels.

The Commission will present the findings of the 5th Rule of Law Reportpublished in July this year, which has examined the rule of law situation in each Member State. It found that Member States and the EU as a whole are much better prepared to prevent and address Rule of Law challenges with two thirds (68%) of the recommendations issued in 2023 fully or partially addressed. They will also discuss the findings on general rule of law trends in four EU enlargement countries: Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia. Chapters on these enlargement countries have been included in the 2024 Rule of Law Report for the first time to further support their reform efforts as they progress towards EU membership. Furthermore, the Council will hold a discussion in preparation of the European Council on 17 and 18 October 2024.

A press conference with Commissioner Reynders will take place at +/- 14:30 CEST. You can follow it live on EbS.
