President von der Leyen heads to Chișinău for first ever EU-Moldova Summit

Today, President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa will travel to Chișinău for the first ever EU-Moldova Summit. Together with President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, they will demonstrate support to Moldova's EU accession path, with a strong focus on economic integration, connectivity, and resilience.

In the face of Russia's ongoing hybrid attacks against the country, the EU is supporting Moldova through political, financial and technical assistance. In March, the EU adopted the €1.9 billion EU Growth Plan for Moldova. The Growth Plan – the largest EU financial support package since Moldova's independence – will underpin reforms essential for Moldova's EU accession and has the potential to double the Moldovan economy in the next 10 years, transforming the lives of Moldovan citizens.

President von der Leyen and President Costa, together with President Sandu, will deliver statements at the start of the Summit at 17:00 CEST, and will hold a joint press conference at 18:00 CEST. This can be followed live on EBS.
